Tuesday

Today we met up with Megan in El Centro Creativo and unpacked supplies we had brought along with us. The center used to be a local's home but he donated it to the community. Over the course of the month we will be turning it into a library and creative learning center. It is currently used by Megan to teach her English classes. After we took inventory, Megan talked to us about the Peace Corps and Costa Rican culture. One of the rules of the Peace Corps is that she is not allowed to drive anything but a horse. She also cannot except money from people and cannot wear really casual clothes while on duty. Costa Rica is a pretty chill place. Everyone has this 'I'll do it whenever I feel like it attitude' which can be very relaxing when on vacation; however, it's quite difficult for Megan to get the locals to cooperate with her intense scheduling. This was apparent when no one showed up for the evening English class. Although I was a bit bummed about not being able to have class, we decided to quickly cart off to the beach to watch the sun set and make sandcastles. Anyway, after we talked about the Peace Corps we took a stroll around the village. With a population of 120 there wasn't too much to see, but each building was so colorful and nicely decorated it took us about an hour to absorb it all. After lunch, we took a 15 min drive to a nearby town to visit a market and get some goodies. On the way back we stopped at this gorgeous hidden beach and took pictures. Tomorrow we are going to visit an endangered bird reserve and then have the evening free. We are trying to convince Megan to let us take surf lessons...hopefully she'll let us.
